World Oceans & Environment Day

Every year in June the Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas and Tangaroa Blue join forces for the World Ocean & Environment Day.

The 11th of June 2011; the first day of this fantastic weekend was spent scouring beaches in North Queensland, ridding them of rubbish. It's was a fun time where we got the opportunity to mix with new friends and fellow environmentally active people.
The children had a blast and learnt a lot about Ocean borne rubbish and the affect it has on Marine Wildlife. The data on rubbish collected is used by university and government departments to help track litter departure points. Click Here to view our collection data from 11-06-2011.

Day two day was at the Wildlife Habitat where educational talks were given by guest speakers. We also had Interactive Displays and all the volunteers got to share stories and knowledge. All of the participants of the clean up got to feast and fill up at either the Breakfast with the Birds or the Lunch with the Lorikeets Buffet at the Wildlife Habitat.

Great Food, Great Friends, Great for the Environment..

We hope to see you there next year.
