Wildlife Safe After Sunday Weather Event

A clean up is underway at Australia’s leading wildlife experience, Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas, following the impact of ex-cyclone Owen on the Tropical North over the weekend.

Wildlife Manager Rabecca Lynch said thankfully no wildlife had been harmed during the storm.

“As we continue our clean up, we are working closely with Bio-security Queensland and Douglas Shire Council to ensure all wildlife is safe in temporary habitats, and that business continues as usual,” she said.

Wildlife Habitat Acting Manager Andrew Hearn said there had been some damage to the park’s aviary netting in the walk through bird sanctuaries,

“As some of our aviaries have been compromised, we are asking the community to be vigilant if they come into contact with any leg-banded birds, and that they should call or bring them into us here at the wildlife park,” he said.

Wildlife Habitat will remain open while undergoing repairs and upgrades as a priority.

“All daily activities and tours will run as scheduled, and you can still have personal interactions with all our animals and experience all the unique things that make the Wildlife Habitat the special place it is,” he said.

With no planned interruptions to opening days and times, the park is continuing operations as normal, and will continue with plans to celebrate their new arrival, “Marri”the baby Koala joey, with “Meet Marri Day” scheduled for the 29thDecember.

Anyone coming into contact with birds that they suspect may be missing from Wildlife Habitat, please call 07 4099 3235.
